The Louisiana Region 4 Healthcare Coalition hosted a tabletop exercise focused on a pandemic flu type of event at Acadian Ambulance’s National EMS Academy auditorium on March 13, 2019. Nearly 150 representatives were present for the discussions and exercises. Region 4 covers Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes.

Those who participated in the exercise represented:
  • Hospitals
  • Ambulatory surgical centers
  • Hospices
  • Psychiatric residential treatment facilities
  • Programs for all-inclusive care of the elderly (PACE)
  • Transplant centers
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF/IID)
  • Comprehensive outpatient rehab facilities (CORF)
  • Organ procurement organizations
  • End-stage renal disease facilities
  • Home health agencies
  • Rural health clinics
  • Federally qualified health centers
  • Providers of outpatient physical therapy and speech-language pathology services
  • Community mental health centers
  • Representatives from parish offices of homeland security and emergency preparedness, public health, EMS and other community partners

Acadian Ambulance also demonstrated how medics drape an ambulance when it transports a patient with a highly infectious disease to a specialized facility. The demonstration was completed as part of Acadian’s contract with the state of Louisiana as the EBOLA/Highly Infectious Disease transport provider.
