Earlier this year, we featured Scot Rudolph in our Alumni Spotlight, highlighting his time as a Paramedic Field Supervisor with Acadian Air Med from 1980 to 1986 and his transition into industrial safety. We’re excited to share an update on what Scot is doing now.

Scot currently serves as a part-time contract instructor for the OSHA Training Institute at the University of Texas-Arlington. In this role, he brings decades of real-world EMS and safety experience to students, helping prepare the next generation of safety professionals.

Outside of work, Scot enjoys spending time with his family, singing with his church choir, and staying active with fishing, hunting, and cooking. He has also been recognized for his contributions as a Safety Officer during the Deepwater Horizon Spill Response.

Reflecting on his time at Acadian, Scot says one of the best parts was “helping the people and the camaraderie that we shared with each other.” His advice for new employees is to never hesitate to lean on colleagues after a difficult call, reminding them, “Seek your brothers and sisters who have been in the trenches.”

Scot hopes to partner with Dr. Kumar Amaraneni to give a talk to current Acadian medics on resiliency, sharing lessons from a critical Air Med call where quick thinking and teamwork saved a young person’s life. On that unforgettable call, when everything seemed to go wrong, Dr. Kumar performed a life-saving tracheotomy using Scot’s Buck knife. Though now retired, Dr. Kumar owns Pelican Urgent Care facilities in Slidell, Mandeville, and Picayune, MS.

Scot believes their experience offers powerful lessons in resiliency that today’s medics could benefit from.

He also shared that he would love the opportunity to attend next year’s Medic of the Year Luncheon to reconnect with fellow alumni and honor the work being done today.
