On October 25, Acadian Ambulance and Abbeville General Hospital hosted two free community CPR training sessions. Nearly 30 residents of all ages were able to learn and practice the proper way to perform hands-only CPR.
They also learned what to do when someone is choking, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and how to control bleeding from an injury using material or a tourniquet.
Acadian’s Hub City operations team and Explorer Post 108 taught the class and assisted attendees. Governmental Relations Supervisor Chris LeDee cooked burgers for attendees, and chips and drinks were also provided.
“Bystander CPR can increase a person’s chances of survival by 2–3 times if performed before paramedics arrive. The survival rate is more favorable when CPR is administered as soon as possible after a person collapses,” said Acadian Operations Supervisor Jimmy Dupuy.
