Covington Mayor Mike Cooper formally proclaimed July 31, 2015 as Chelsea Feerick Day in honor of her heroic service as an Acadian Ambulance dispatcher.  Mayor Cooper, Covington’s Police Chief Tim Lentz and Public Information Officer Trey Mahon visited Acadian Ambulance’s Lafayette Communications Center on Friday, July 31, to personally thank Chelsea. Acadian Vice President of Operations Clay Henry and Communications Operations Manager Chad Doucet were also on hand for the special proclamation.

One April day, Chelsea handled a call from a young woman in Covington whose husband was experiencing an drug overdose. Chelsea calmly instructed the woman through performing life support efforts, all while a baby cried in the background. The efforts worked, thanks to Chelsea’s professional assistance and dedication before help arrived.

Mayor Cooper presented Chelsea with a very special Mayoral Proclamation that dedicates July 31, 2015, as Chelsea Feerick Day in Covington. As he read aloud, “Whereas, in the face of hysteria, you, Chelsea, were the voice of calm. Your handling of this call should be an example to others. Your special moment arrived, and you were prepared and qualified. It was one of I am sure many, your finest hours!”

Officer Mahon presented Chelsea with a plaque recognizing her outstanding service on behalf of the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police, and Chief Lentz awarded Chelsea with a special Covington Police Department Challenge Coin, marking the first time someone outside of the police department has received one.

“We truly thank Chelsea for her service. Sometimes the difference between life and death happens even before first responders arrive, and Chelsea had the opportunity to make an impact in that time,” Chief Lentz said.

Feerick humbly said, “All of my coworkers go through the same situations every day. We all share this recognition and award. Happy Dispatch Day to my colleagues who work just as hard! Thank you for letting us all see that our hard work pays off!”
